A young man died 2 nights ago. He fell.

On the day I found out, something stirred and I pressed my soft bones. One day we will leave our mortal coils. We are fragile. We are not towers of invincible and incorruptible strength.

I thought of his family and all the possible reactions when they got the phone call. I thought of his friend who saw it and how traumatic it was and still is for him. I thought of his classmates, looking at that one empty seat and knowing the answer why. I thought of myself, how lucky I am to be alive.

Death comes uninviting but inevitable. Don’t bother making preparations, we’re never ready.

I knew you only briefly. To you, rest in peace.
